Celebrity Inspired Handbag?

Question: What does ‘celebrity inspired handbag’ really mean?

I see this term being thrown around quite a bit in my business and it really makes me wonder. I mean let’s get ‘real’ for a moment. Do celebrities inspire handbags? Come on. I think in a very general sense this term is a bit baffling.

I mean seriously. If Paris Hilton were to one day buy a cute and trendy handbag from Mimi Boutique, would I now have the right to claim that particular bag now as being a  “celebrity inspired handbag”?  This sounds a bit far fetched to me. But, this appears to be the way the industry promotes a ‘celebrity inspired handbag’.  A celebrity wears a handbag, and you peg a bag that looks a bit similiar, and !VOILA! you now can make claim that that particular handbag is now a ‘celebrity inspired handbag’!

I mean seriously, a celebrity inspired handbag is in all actuality a designer inspired handbag similar to one worn by a celebrity.  Plain and simple.  I.E. Paris Hilton is spotted wearing a Gucci handbag. Photo taken. Photo promoted. Photo is seen all over magazines and fashion forums on the internet. Now the big hunt is on!  Let’s find a designer inspired handbag similar in style, shape or looks. We now peg this handbag as obviously a designer inspired handbag, but it suddenly has evolved into another creature of a handbag! It is now the ‘celebrity inspired handbag’.

The above is my basic general assessment of how this ‘celebrity inspired handbag’ marketing really works.

Now the better question is this: do women search for ‘celebrity inspired handbags’ or designer inspired handbags?
I believe the answer is the latter. I think that if a women wears a trendy handbag that is designer inspired and she catches a glimpse or picture of a famous celebrity wearing the real deal, well all in all the women ought to feel ecstatic for having good style sense and taste. I really seriously doubt that real every day women are in search of the perfect ‘celebrity inspired handbag’!  I think women simply want to feel good, and that is dependent on finding something they really love wearing. Period.
Now I could very well be wrong with my above assessment of things, and it is my goal to not offend anyone with my remarks. I would even fathom to say that the tone of my blog post here resembles a bit of a ‘I mean really skit” from SNL. Perhaps someone reading my blog post in that particular tone will actually see the humor in all of this.  I respect the fashion industry’s marketing schemes and efforts, it obviously works and is very powerful and effective tool when it comes to selling handbags. But, call me a realist, if you wish!  I just had a thought, and wanted to explore.

Ok…so, here goes my pitch!
